There were 31 reported Landing Gear-Related Mishaps in December 2006, with a low-end estimated insurance payout of US $1.25 million   The aviation insurance industry continues to pay on average well over $1 million every month in LGRM claims.

Definitions

Total Reports      Total number of reported mishaps (FAA, NTSB, and unofficial sources) involving that make and model of airplane

LGRM                Landing gear related mishap (from FAA, NTSB and unofficial sources.  Does not count "hard landings", runway excursions, etc that

                         precede a gear collapse.)

Gear Up             Landing with gear less than fully extended; no known mechanical cause

Gear Collapse    Gear did not remain down after extension; no known mechanical cause

Mech                 Known mechanical failure of extension mechanism or gear leading to a gear up or gear collapse mishap
